The Tightrope Between Two Kingdoms

Image
The Tightrope Between Two Kingdoms Lina had always been told that life was a balance. Her grandmother, with hands worn by years of knitting, used to say, “A life without direction wavers like a rope in the wind. You must learn to walk steady, child, or the fall will come.” Lina had laughed then, thinking it was a metaphor too gentle to matter. But today, she stood at the edge of a chasm so wide she could not see the bottom, and the rope stretched before her like a silver thread under the sun. On the far side lay the Kingdom of Light , a place that shimmered with golden towers, rolling gardens, and rivers of calm waters. It was peaceful and quiet, but empty of distractions—perfect, steady, safe. To her left, the Kingdom of Shadows sprawled, dark and enticing. Its towers were jagged, smoke curling from chimneys that promised warmth, gold glittered at the edges, and music pulsed through the air. Many had fallen into the chasm from that side, yet the shadow kingdom seemed never-e...

Short Story inspired by the sermon Can We Trust the Bible? January 8, 2023   By Eric Geiger In a quiet village surrounded by wheat fields and oak trees lived a young carpenter named Thomas. He was a good worker and an honest man, but he often wondered what his life was truly meant for. Each evening after his work was done, he would sit on a wooden bench outside his small house and watch the sun slip behind the hills. He felt that there must be more to life than simply working and sleeping. One autumn evening, an elderly traveler passed through the village. His coat was worn, and he carried a small leather-bound Bible in his hand. Thomas offered the man water and a place to rest. As they sat together, the traveler opened the Bible and read aloud, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” Thomas listened carefully. The wor...

Along the Olive Path

Image
Along the Olive Path This story was inspired by Matthew 26:39 Elias had always preferred walking at night. Something about the hush that settled over the hills after sunset made the world feel honest. In daylight, everything demanded something from him—the farm, the neighbors, the endless list of repairs, the memories he tried not to think about. But at night, the world asked nothing. It simply existed, and he could simply exist with it. Tonight, though, the quiet felt heavier. He walked along the narrow path that wound through the old olive grove behind his family’s land. The trees were ancient—gnarled, twisted, and stubborn, like elders who had seen too much to be impressed by anything new. His father used to say the grove was older than the town itself, older than the stone chapel on the hill, older even than the stories people told about the valley. Elias used to believe him. Now he wasn’t sure he believed much of anything. He stopped beside the largest tree, the one with a tr...

The Door That Opened

Image
The Door That Opened The Door That Opened is inspired by Matthew 7:8 The town of Everwood had a rhythm to it. Every morning, the church bells rang over cobblestone streets, and smoke curled from the chimneys of homes lined in neat rows. Life there was quiet, almost predictable, which suited Mara, who had always believed that safety and certainty were the only things worth chasing. But Mara’s life had recently lost its rhythm. It had started the year she turned twenty-nine, when her mother fell ill. Mara had spent countless hours by her bedside, praying for strength, praying for healing, praying for hope. When her mother passed, something inside Mara fractured. Faith, which had been her foundation, felt like a fragile thread in the wind. She tried to pray, but the words seemed hollow. She asked herself why her prayers hadn’t brought her mother back, why God had allowed the pain, and why, if He could do anything, He hadn’t acted when it mattered most. Months passed. Mara walked thr...

the Call: Go and Tell

Image
The Call: Go and Tell Inspired by a sermon at Crossroads Grace Community Church by Pastor B. on Mar, 1, 2026 The morning air was quiet, the kind of quiet that feels like God might be about to say something important. Daniel sat at a small wooden table with his Bible open, a notebook beside it, and a cup of coffee that had long since gone cold. He had been reading the opening of Luke again. Luke wrote like someone who cared deeply about getting the story right. In the spirit of The Message translation, Luke explained that many people had tried to tell the story of Jesus, but he had carefully investigated everything from the beginning and decided to write an orderly account so people could know the truth. That idea stayed with Daniel for a long moment. Someone had taken the time to investigate the life of Jesus, to write it down carefully, and to pass it along so others could believe. If someone had not done that, Daniel might never have heard the story himself. And if he almost...

Contemplation at twilight with memories

Contemplation at twilight with memories  Inspired by 1 Timothy 3:16 The rain had been falling for three days straight in the small farming town outside Modesto . The fields were soaked, the sky gray, and the air heavy with the quiet feeling that something in the world had gone wrong. Inside a small house at the edge of town, Daniel Reeves sat near the window with a worn Bible resting on his knees. The room was quiet except for the ticking of a clock and the gentle tapping of rain against the glass. Daniel was seventy–eight years old, and in the past few years life had slowly grown smaller. His wife had passed away, many of his friends were gone, and even the church he once attended weekly now felt distant. Some mornings he woke with a strange question pressing into his thoughts: had God forgotten about people like him? He didn’t say the question out loud because people in church rarely said such things, but it lingered there in the quiet spaces of the day. That afternoon his grand...
