God Is With Us, Even When It’s Hard

Inspired by the book Rooted: Connect with God, the Church, Your Purpose Week 4




Once upon a time, there was a man named Daniel who loved his wife, Anna, very much. They laughed together, played together, and shared little joys every day. But one day, Anna became very sick.

She had something called a big sickness, and the doctors said she might not get better. Daniel didn’t know what to do. He prayed and prayed, but sometimes it felt like God wasn’t listening.

“Where are You, God?” Daniel whispered. “Why is Anna so sick?”

He felt very sad. He missed the days when life felt safe and happy. And he started to wonder if God had left them.

One afternoon, Daniel walked into a small chapel at the hospital. It was quiet and peaceful. Sunlight streamed through the windows, and there was a simple cross at the front.

An older lady was sitting there, her hands folded in her lap. She smiled at Daniel.

“You look like you’re carrying a very heavy heart,” she said.

Daniel nodded. “I don’t know if God is helping,” he said.

The lady’s eyes were kind. “I know what you mean. My son was very sick too. I prayed and prayed, and sometimes God didn’t do what I wanted. But I always felt that He was there with me.”

Daniel thought about that. Could God be with him, even if He wasn’t fixing things right away?

That night, Anna woke up and looked at Daniel. “Are you sad?” she asked softly.

Daniel nodded. “Yes. I miss the way things used to be. I’m scared.”

Anna held his hand. “It’s okay to feel sad. It’s okay to be scared. But even when things are hard, God is still here. He’s sitting with us, holding us, even if we can’t see Him.”

Daniel squeezed her hand and felt a little better.

A few days later, Anna went to heaven. Daniel felt very lonely. He missed her so much that it hurt. But he remembered what Anna had said: God was with them, even in the hardest moments.

Daniel started visiting the hospital chapel often. He would sit quietly, talk to God, and sometimes, just notice the sunlight or the soft music.

Sometimes, other children and parents would come in. Some were sad, some were scared. Daniel would sit with them and say, “God is here, even when it feels lonely. He will sit with you and give you strength.”

Daniel learned that God doesn’t always make the sickness go away. Sometimes, God doesn’t make the pain stop. But God is always with us.

He’s with us when we feel sad.
He’s with us when we feel scared.
He’s with us when someone we love is gone.

And when we remember that, we can feel hope, even in the hardest times.

In October of 1965, over 61 years ago I made a decision to follow Jesus Christ. It was the best decision I ever made.
